North Korea may be on a path to provoking a confrontation that could be its downfall, but Nikki Haley just made it extremely clear that the United States won’t be backing down any time soon.
During a press briefing on Friday, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was asked if it was time for the country to “change its approach” to Kim Jong Un. That question came after both sanctions and hints of military action seemed to have no effect on the rogue nation’s nuclear provocations.
The press no doubt wanted Haley to backtrack the Trump administration’s tough talk. Instead, the former governor of South Carolina made it clear that she had “no problem” with the military option if push came to shove.
“If you look at the resolutions that have passed in the last month, the two of them, they cut 30 percent of the oil, they banned all the laborers, they banned 90 percent of the exports,” Haley explained, according to Fox News.
“We’ve basically taken, and in the words of North Korea, we have ‘strangled their economic situation,’ at this point,” she continued.
“What we are seeing is they continue to be provocative, they continue to be reckless, and at that point there’s not a whole lot the security council is going to be able to do from here,” the ambassador explained.
Instead of being frustrated that a diplomatic solution wasn’t working, Haley calmly issued a chilling warning to the North Korean dictatorship.
“So, having said that, I have no problem kicking it to General Mattis,” she declared. “Because I think he has plenty of options.”
That thinly-veiled reference to the secretary of defense left no doubt that unlike some spineless diplomats, Haley and the administration had no qualms about letting the U.S. military deal with Kim Jong Un directly.
What Trump and his team seem to understand — and what bleeding-heart liberals often seem to miss — is that keeping all options on the table is a benefit to negotiation.
As their squeamish reaction to the president’s recent “fire and fury” speech indicated, leftist journalists can’t stand the idea of strength in the face of a tyrannical dictator.
Luckily for the American people, it looks like Haley and Mattis have much tougher backbones.
