As the number of American adults with concealed carry permits spiked by 190 percent from 2007 to 2015, murders fell by 12.5 percent, while violent crime dropped by a stunning 18 percent. Coincidence or conspiracy?
Try common sense instead — or, more specifically, the common sense outlined in a study by the Crime Prevention Research Center published Thursday in the Social Science Research Network.
“Regression estimates show a significant association between increased permit ownership and drops in murder and violent crime rates,” the study concluded. “Each one percentage point increase in rates of permit-holding is associated with a roughly 2.5 percent drop in the murder rate. This holds true even after accounting for incarceration rates, the number of police per capita, and other demographics.”
In other words, increased gun ownership invariably corresponds to less crime.
“Duh!” would likely be the response of the average conservative, who already understands that criminals fear nothing more than an empowered citizenry armed and ready to fight back.
Liberals disagree. For decades, with the help of the mainstream media, they’ve been pushing their brand of “common sense” thinking on the masses, which posits that more guns means more shootings, which means more deaths.
As noted by The Daily Caller, their flawed premise makes sense on its face: “More guns, more shootings. More cars, more accidents. More skiers, more broken bones.”
But once you dig underneath the facade, you discover that the actual truth belies these presumptions. Sadly, attempts to explain the truth to liberals have repeatedly failed.
In 2007, for instance, Harvard University published a study that contained this bombshell truth: “Where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are lowest, and where guns are least dense violent crime rates are highest.”
Yet to this very day, 10 years later, Democrat politicians continue to claim the opposite — lying both to themselves and their immensely naive followers.
Will the Crime Prevention Research Center’s recent study be the catalyst needed to spur a change in liberals’ misguided views on gun ownership? Probably not.
Remember, ignorance is bliss, and apparently, liberals prefer to be blissfully ignorant instead of armed with the truth — and, of course, a weapon.
