Last week came the shocking news that ABC canceled Last Man Standing, a popular sitcom helmed by comedy icon Tim Allen. Not so shocking? The results of that decision.

The show had six seasons under its belt, enjoyed strong ratings, and showed no signs of slowing down, which left only one possible explanation for killing it: the right-of-center politics of its star, which sometimes seeped into the show’s humor.

Of course, fans are furious about the decision, with the Washington Examiner reporting on petitions to appeal the cancellation and boycott ABC:

“‘Last Man Standing’ is one of the only shows on broadcast television, and the only sitcom, that is not constantly shoving liberal ideals down the throats of the viewers. And sadly, that is likely the real reason the show has been cancelled,” said a new petition on Change.org which collected nearly 10,000 signatures overnight.

“With a plethora of ultra-liberal shows available on television, this show stood out from the rest and motivated conservatives who voted for President Trump. Please demand that Congress investigate whether LMS was cancelled for political reasons,” said another on PetitionCongress.org.

Playing politics with all-American entertainment even caught the attention of Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker:

While a network canceling its own show isn’t the government’s business, contrary to the one petition’s suggestion, it’s certainly a sign of just how little ABC respects, understands, or truly even values its own audience. The company’s leadership is so obsessed with their liberal prejudices that they would rather hurt their business than please their customers with something the elites in their circles would turn up their noses at.

Now, some conservatives dislike the idea of boycotts (due to the flawed premise that exercising freedom of association is somehow equivalent to censorship), while others are much more reasonably skeptical of boycotts’ effectiveness. It remains to be seen whether a boycott of ABC can get off the ground and truly do any good, but here’s hoping the people in the best position to make a difference — ABC’s own viewers — send a message big enough it can’t be ignored.

After all, Target learned the hard way what happens when a company puts leftist insanity ahead of the the people in flyover country who make its business possible…
