Conspiracy theories have abounded after a photo of a Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. was spotted sitting behind the Obama administration’s ambassador to Russia during a congressional hearing.
The photo surfaced on Thursday, one day after The Hill reported that Natalia Veselnitskaya did not have a visa when she entered the country but was let in under “extraordinary circumstances” by the Department of Justice.
The photo from a June 2016 House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Russia was posted by CNN reporter Michael Weiss. Former Russian Ambassador Michael McFaul was seated right ahead of the woman whose meetings with the president’s son have become a national issue.

It didn’t take long for McFaul to call this just a silly conspiracy theory.

However, it seemed a bit unusual to a number of people (including President Trump) that a woman who had been denied a normal visa and had only been in the United States on “special parole” was seated behind the former ambassador to Russia during a hearing in 2016. And this occurred on June 14 — just days after she had met with Donald Trump Jr.
